Why Choose Double Glazing In The First Place?

    Advantages of Double Glazing (Which)

    • - Keeps warm air in, meaning your property is better insulated meaning fewer draughts and cheaper heating bills.
    • - Keeps noise out - you'll hear far less noise from outside with double glazing.
    • - Reduces the amount of condensation on the inside of your windows.
    • - Heightens security - double-glazed glass is more difficult to break than single glazing.

How much cheaper will my energy bills be if I install double glazing?

If you were to replace all of the windows in a three-bedroom, semi-detached house, going from single-glazed windows to double glazing, the Energy Saving Trust says that you'd save between £75 and £100 per year with B-rated glass and £85-£110 per year with A-rated glass. As double glazing should last for at least 20 years, that's a saving of between £1,500 and £2,200 over 20 years.

    General Maintenance

We recommend that you carry out routine maintenance on your windows, doors and/or conservatory at least twice a year. In areas of high exposure, you may want to do this more frequently. A suitable acid and resin free grease should be used on sliding bars, gears and face plates.

    Misted (condensation/steamed) window glass

This problem is usually caused by a broken seal allowing condensation to form between the glass layers. The sealed unit will have lost much of its ability to keep out noise and keep in heat and should be replaced as soon as possible. We supply competitively priced replacement sealed units manufactured to the highest standards.

    Keep it Clean

The best way to avoid repair bills is to look after your windows properly - unless you've inherited them by moving house or business. Keeping them clean is the first step and please remember when cleaning UPVC frames, do not to use anything abrasive as this will scratch the surface and trap the dirt. Wash them with a mild solution of washing-up. Regularly clean the glass with a clear liquid spray glass cleaner. Do NOT use any type of bleach, solvent or adhesive.

    Lubrication

To ensure your locks are kept in good condition, use WD40 or a light oil a couple of times a year on the locks and any metal surfaces around the doors and windows.

    Patio doors and French windows

Maintenance of the locking systems is simple: apply light oil to the moving parts, once a year. A little grease should also be applied to the locking slots to ensure smooth running.
